Perché questa foto funziona? Quando guardiamo una fotografia, il nostro occhio cerca sempre una geometria all’interno dell’immagine. Cerca quindi, consciamente o inconsciamente, delle linee che lo guidino nella fruizione dell’immagine. Questa fotografia ha una composizione “semplice”. Il soggetto principale è posto al centro dell’immagine, secondo la regola dei terzi.
Le linee guida degli edifici circostanti, del marciapiede e dei cavi della linea del tram guidano l’occhio verso il soggetto principale della fotografia, rinforzando la sua centralità nella scena. Questi elementi, uniti all’uso del grandangolo, enfatizzano la profondità dell’immagine. L’elemento secondario, la scritta sul muro “Silvio impotente al rogo!” aggiunge un sottotesto sociale o politico, creando un doppio livello di lettura.

Why does this photo work? When we look at a photograph, our eye always searches for a geometry within the image. It therefore searches, consciously or unconsciously, for lines that guide it in the enjoyment of the image. This photograph has a “simple” composition. The main subject is placed in the center of the image, according to the rule of thirds.
The leading lines of the surrounding buildings, the sidewalk and the tram line cables guide the eye towards the main subject of the photograph, reinforcing its centrality in the scene. These elements, combined with the use of the wide angle, emphasize the depth of the image. The secondary element, the writing on the wall “Silvio impotente al rogo!” adds a social or political subtext, creating a double level of reading.
